Soliloquoy

I’m waiting to fall back in love
which is admitting I fell out
and much as I want to say we
it might not be mutual

I stopped missing you
the natural way distance works
when all that was left were words
neither of us wanted to see

It’s a remembered insanity
that fuels these new conversations
a patchwork magic indulged
to keep from saying goodbye

All I can do is pretend
to return to that blank page
and wait for you to take shape
to find what is next for us
